Intellectual Property Law Firm Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni Continues D.C. Expansion,

Adds Partner and Counsel

Dr. Judith L. Toffenetti and Paul Skwierawski Join National IP Law Firm,

Marking a Total of Six New Hires in 2016

BOSTON/WASHINGTON, D.C., July 12, 2016 – National intellectual property firm Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni PLLC recently expanded its legal team in the Washington, D.C. area with the arrivals of experienced IP lawyers, Judith L. Toffenetti PhD and Paul Skwierawski. Toffenetti joins as a partner, bringing decades of experience in life sciences and biotechnology. Skwierawski joins as counsel, focusing on prosecution of medical portables and construction equipment technologies. Their arrivals mark KDB’s fifth and sixth hires within a year.

With decades of experience in patent portfolio management and strategy in areas such as small molecule therapies, genomics, gene therapy, anti-cancer therapies, molecular biology, immunology and pharmaceutical formulations, Toffenetti joins KDB from McDermott Will & Emery, where she was a partner. Her practice also focuses on patent prosecution, licensing and strategic client counseling. Skwierawski joins the D.C. office from Jones Robb PLLC, bringing several years of experience in medical and construction equipment patent application and prosecution, to serve as counsel for KDB partners and clientele.

“We are excited to have Judith and Paul join the team in our Washington D.C. office,” said Scott Bluni, KDB partner and Chief Operating Officer. “Judith’s vast experience and wealth of knowledge in the life sciences and biotechnology fields will add great value to the firm clients. Paul is an exceptional addition to our D.C. office, where his impressive experience and dedication will serve our organization well, and provide high-level counsel to our clients.”

KDB’s inter-connected operating structure and team of highly experienced IP talent attracted both lawyers to the now 31-attorney firm.

“It’s a great opportunity for both KDB and myself,” said Toffenetti, noting that she will work closely with emerging pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, universities and research institutes specializing in the biotech and medical fields. “As I initially started in a boutique firm, I had a desire to go back to my roots, and KDB was the perfect firm that helps foster the type of innovation and collaboration I was seeking.”

Prior to joining McDermott Will & Emery, Toffenetti was a post-doctoral fellow at MIT, where she conducted research in the molecular biology of Drosophila myogenesis. Previously, she conducted molecular genetics research in the area of retinal degeneration at the Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health for five years. A graduate of George Washington University Law School, Toffenetti holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in microbial molecular biology.

Previously, Skwierawski was the manager and main point of contact of incoming work for a major Japanese client. With his experience, he holds MPEP [Manual of Patent Examining Procedure] lecture seminars for foreign-based trainees in Washington D.C. Skwierawski graduated with a J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center and received a B.S. in electrical engineering technology from Southeastern Massachusetts University.
